SocialTimes published an article determining that most Facebook users either use the Facebook Messaging app, WhatsApp, or Instagram with its new messaging section as their main form of a messaging tool. Personally, I don’t use a messaging app, avoiding both Facebook Messenger (Photo Magic is creepy) & WhatsApp, and I wouldn’t really put Instagram into that category, at least how I use it.
Facebook Messenger seems to be the most popular with about 65% of Facebook users taking advantage of it, even though it is now a seperate app from Facebook. WhatsApp and Instagram fall behind Facebook Messenger as the most used with, respectively, 50% and 40% usage.
However, when looking at the age of each app’s users, the number skew significantly. Although Facebook Messenger is still going strong and Instagram is the least used of the three, numbers are significantly higher for users between 16 and 24. Facebook Messaging jumps up to nearly 80% while 65% and 55% of users have WhatsApp and Instagram accounts.
